History
The Prinz-Eugen Class Battlecruiser is the last battlecruiser design to come out of the People’s Shipyard on David’s Star thanks to its recent destruction at the hands of a People’s Security task force. However, David’s Star went out with a bang and produced quite possibly the best Battlecruiser design to be employed by the People’s Navy. With only ten years in service thus far, the Prinz-Eugen has already become a feared sight in deep space.
The Prinz-Eugen retains the characteristic tubular hull of Coalition ships as well as the large, bow mounted mass-sensor array. However, where the latest Alliance ships mount still heavier counter-mass drivers for their main guns, the Prinz-Eugen retains the previous generations 50-inch and 100-inch guns. Furthermore, the Prinz-Eugen also uses the smaller Type 97 Advanced Munitions in its launchers rather than the larger, more powerful Type 105 AM round being incorporated into newer Liberator-Class Battleships. Consequently, many tacticians question the effectiveness of the Prinz-Eugen in maintaining black-space superiority. Regardless, it does benenift from high support craft load out making it one the few battlecruisers well suited for Loworb operations.
The Loworb functions are highlighted, however, on one of the sub-classes of Prinz-Eugen, the People’s Security’s Imperator-Class. The Imperator forgoes the 100inch bow guns on the Prinz-Eugen in favor of an expanded support bay with a small craft load out that rivals those aboard conventional battleships and dreadnoughts; and People’s Security has already put this feature to good use. In 2790, during her trials, Imperator responded to a crisis on the Coalition Industry world of Forge. Imperator’s rapidly deployed People’s Security troopers managed to quell a ten-thousand worker riot in under an hour and from that point forward, this sub-class of warship was seen as the go-to vessel for maintaining state control of Coalition territory.
However, the Alliances Office of Naval Intelligence has noted some glaring problems with the Prinz-Eugen design. First and fore-most, the Prinz-Eugen’s missile loadout - like previous designs before it - is centered in the core region of the ship over a surface area that amounts to no more than 30% of the ship’s total broadside. This tight grouping makes the ship’s primary long-range armament extremely vulnerable to mass-failures should a weapon penetrate the barriers in that region. Furthermore, the main guns of the Eugen are in the same general region of the missiles, again amplifying the risk of “cutting the legs from under her” with a single, well aimed volley.
However, ONI warns that the Prinz-Eugen is not a ship to treated lightly. Its large missile broadside and decently powered main guns make it a worthy adversary for even the latest Renown-Class warships and her armament matches the older King Henry-Class with ease. Furthermore, the Prinz-Eugen’s large support-craft flotilla makes it a major threat for ground-based garrisons should defending naval forces be defeated; and it’s main 100-inch gun will be effective against anything but the largest orbital fortresses.

History
Although it appears to be only a upgraded version of the preceding Guardian-class, the Centaurus-class War Cruiser is in reality an entirely new design with only a superficial similarity to it’s predecessor. This new class forms the backbone of the modern Atlantean Navy but as of 2780, remains a rare sight outside Imperial space. Produced at a dozen state-run construction yards, including the famous Thracian Shipyards, these ships make extensive use of subsystems produced by Atlantean Imperial Armaments- one of the galaxy’s leading military research and manufacturing firms. Objective analysis of the design rates them as superior to all but the latest battleship designs of the Alliance and Star Kingdom of Sagittarius. It should be noted, however, the Centaurus-class is at least on par, if not slightly exceeding, the capabilities of the aforementioned designs in specific categories, including traditional naval gunnery and inertia-compensation, allowing for greater acceleration and maneuverability.
As with previous classes of War Cruiser, and most other Atlantean designs, the Centaurus is a “gun heavy” ship. The ship’s twelve 63-inch main guns are housed in three turrets (two dorsal, one ventral) containing four guns each. While other classes carry either a larger number of smaller guns or a fewer number of larger guns, the Atlanteans maintain their combination offers the greatest overall effectiveness, especially against other Ships of the Line. A state of the art targeting AI and an ultra-efficient reloading system allows for a heavy volume of fire to be delivered with extreme accuracy, making the War Cruiser one of the most formidable warships in the galaxy inside gun range. In addition, a heavy load out of 2.5-inch duel-purpose and 40mm rapid-fire guns can make life difficult, and predictably short, for any destroyers, frigates or corvettes which come into range.
The Centaurus-class is not without it’s drawbacks. Among the most obvious is it’s relatively modest missile load. While the Centaurus utilizes a revolutionary (for the Empire) tri-missile launcher called the ‘Trident’, the launchers require longer to reload than the traditional single-missile or dual missile launchers and utilize last-generation targeting systems compared to the latest programs used by the Alliance and Coalition. Also, the energy demands of the Centaurus’ systems allow for very modest Counter-Grav Barriers for a ship it’s size. Finally, very few troops are carried aboard, typically only one or two companies, although the ship has provisions for a full battalion plus support troops.
Despite these drawbacks, the Centaurus and it’s derivatives are planned to form the backbone of the Atlantean fleet for the foreseeable future. Indeed, in response to rising tensions between the Alliance and Coalition, the Imperial Ruling Council has directed the Imperial Guard to step up production of these powerful warships and re-double efforts regarding system upgrades. If war should come, the Centaurus-class will be ready to defend the Empire.
Centaurus-class ships are named for minor deities, mythical beings and creatures from various human spiritual traditions.

History
The Jupiter-Class Battleship is one of the most visual ships of the Alliance Navy, at least to Alliance citizens. These massive warships look very much the part of a classic Armstrong Design Firm concept and they are also the most powerful Battleship in known space besides the Royal Sagittarian Navy’s Emperor-Class; and even in the case of the Emperor, the effective difference between them is barely 5%. Indeed, the Jupiter-Class is the Alliance’s workhorse ship of the line. Numerous enough to serve away from their powerful dreadnought masters but strong enough in their own right to serve as true ships of the line in conjunction with a dreadnought squadron. However, Jupiter’s now popular prestige was hard earned.
The design and development of the Jupiter-Class was marred early on when the Armstrong Design Firm failed to meet their design submission date by four months. With the Alliance already in the process of taking the much older Everest-Class battleships offline, they were faced with the very real threat of a vastly reduced battleship force with no proper replacement. Furthermore, when construction finally did begin on the first hull, the inclusion of many new armor and weapons technologies meant that that phase of the process was quickly behind schedule as well. All in all, when the first Jupiter-Class left her slip, she was over one-year behind schedule.
By this point, the Admiralty had become extremely leery of the entire class. Yet a young, upstart commanding officer – then Captain Harris – was determined to prove her new commands worth; and the results spoke for themselves. In a simulated exercise, the Jupiter under Harris’ command managed to successfully destroy two of the older Everest-class ships and cripple a third while taking only fifty six percent damage – an astounding figure given the ferocity of the exchange and the sheer number of kills Jupiter had scored. Yet, however exuberant the Admiralty had been, this had not been a live fire test and Jupiter was still an uproven ship in their minds.
This changed in the early days of the Verge incursions when, in a stunning move, the Genoan Navy managed to take the Alliance System of Eden and destroyed Admiral Harris’ – Captain Harris’ father – ten Everest-Class battleships. The Admiralty scambeled to muster a force strong enough to retake Eden without uncovering more vital areas and what emerged was a twenty battleship force headed by Jupiter. Under Admiral Gary Fenton, Jupiter and her task force not only retook Eden but routed the rest of the Genoan Navy in orbit of their capital world. In those two conflicts, Jupiter herself accounted for five direct battleship kills, two soft assists, and two direct battlecruiser kills. An impressive number for a ship that took only ten percent damage during the entire exchange.
As a result, the Jupiter-Class was quickly approved for mass production and of 2785, four-hundred are in active duty with another two-hundred in the slips. In conjunction with their younger, smaller sisters – the Renown-Class – the Jupiter-Class represents the modern naval design theory driving the Alliance Navy’s Ships of the Line and they are the shadow of things to come; specifically in the form of the in development monster – the Alliance’s new Admiral-Class Dreadnought.

History
The Renown-Class Battlecruiser is the latest ship of the line produced by the Bureau of Ships in conjunction with the Armstrong Design Firm and represents the Alliances direct response to the rapid production of battlecruisers in both the Coalition of Independent Systems and Star Kingdom of Sagittarius. Preceded by the venerable but somewhat limited King Henry-class, the Renown’s designers were faced with filling a somewhat neglected warship weight class in the Alliances fleet. The result was a warship that not only met but also exceeded every design requirement set by the Bureau of Ships.
The Renown-Class borrows heavily from its bigger brother, the Illustrious-Class battleship and has even been jokingly referred to as a “Pocket-Battleship” by some. However, this designation is not far from accurate as Renown’s armament out-classes any existing battlecruiser design in any navy by at least twenty percent. This awesome firepower is married to a hull capable of pulling cruiser maximum velocities and accelerations, which create a potent foe for even the largest capital ship.
In the two years since the classes namesake, ANS Renown (BC-2000), left the slip – the Renown-Class has become the star of the Alliance Navy and one of the most highly desired commands of any Battlecruiser qualified Captain. In her first month of operations, Renown was credited with twenty-two high profile anti-piracy missions. Furthermore, she served as the flagship of Admiral Koji Katsumi during the Verge incursions of 2780 – accounting for 4% of the total tonnage destroyed, extraordinary figures for a single warship.
However, Renown is not without her weaknesses. Her high accelerations and top speeds is paid for in armor, with Renown’s total armor mass equaling her predecessor King Henry despite being 15% larger. This weakness is offset by staggering armor layouts over more vital-areas of the ship as well as investing in far stronger counter-mass shields. Furthermore, Renown must also rely more on its cruiser escorts for effective anti-destroyer/anti-frigate screening when compared to its predecessor.
Yet despite these disadvantages, preliminary reviews of the first flight of twenty-ships has shown the vessels to be a valuable addition to the Alliance Navy. Consequently, BuShips had already placed an order for an additional four-hundred hulls with another one-thousand planned for staggered replacement as the King Henry-Class ships are phased out.

History
The Trafalgar-Class Heavy Cruiser is the newest design produced at any of the Alliance Navy Shipyards and is the premier warship in Alliance Space. With a Missile payload that rivals the 10 year young Renown-Class Battlecruiser, the Trafalgar has the firepower to engage the largest lance ships in any navy and can even tango with a battlecruiser if need be. However, armament is not what really makes the Trafalgar stand out. Instead, her true prowess is in a whole new series of electronic counter-warfare technologies, A.I. technologies, and a new missile launching system.
Trafalgar-Class is the first ship to be fitted with the GML-59A “Dual Lance” Missile Racks (essentially a modified GML-58B) which can fire the latest (and slightly larger) Type 68 ADAP. The Type 68 ADCAP is the latest in munitions technology for the Alliance Navy. Having the exact same yield of the previous design, the Type 68 doesn’t improve on the Type 58’s already impressive destructive power. Instead, the Type 68 uses the addition space to include a new level of Electronic Counter Warfare (ECW) Systems. In fact, initial testing showed that the Type 68 was over 20% more effective at penetrating a target’s own ECW defenses and at least 10% more effective at scrambling the target’s defenses.
However, Trafalgar’s technological edge does not end there. The ship’s own internal ECW system is nearly 30% larger than the ECW system carried on Trafalgar’s predecessor, the Birmingham-Class. Furthermore, the Trafalgar’s bridge module is significantly larger than on previous. This provides a larger mounting surface for the ECW screens and improves the command, control and communication space on the Trafalgar. This means that the Trafalgar can effectively take over anti-missile control from larger ship’s of the line, allowing the larger capital ships to focus computer power to their own ECW and tracking systems.
Currently, only twenty Trafalgar-Class ships have been constructed and are going through initial trials, with the first ten ships already commissioned into service and deployed on operations missions. Furthermore, numerous technologies classified by the Office of Naval Intelligence and the Bureau of Weapons are currently in development to utilize the computer control and A.I. capabilities of the Trafalgar which, pending results from post-commissioning trials, looks to be a common sight in Alliance and Verge space.

History
The Katana-Class frigate is the Alliance Navy’s new standard for frigate design and operation and represents a major paradigm shift in the way in which Alliance frigates are used. Until the development of the Katana, Alliance frigates had been – much like their destroyer cousins – space bound vessels. Like destroyers, frigates deployed marines and orbital airborne troops via drop pods or dropships but could not enter the atmosphere of a celestial body. However, the with the development of the new Rork CMD-90-L Low-Grade counter-mass drive, the bureau of ships had a powerful enough drive system to allow a frigate sized ship to operate safely within a planet’s atmosphere. Out of this convergence of events, the Katana was born.
The Katana is a whole new breed of frigate. The hull is clearly designed for atmospheric efficiency, with the give-nothing boxiness of a dedicated starship replaced with a smooth hull form that resembles turn of the millennia air superiority fighters. Consequently, the Katana is a "frontal assault" design. Her axially fixed dual-mass drivers (firing 120 rounds per minute) provide a hefty forward facing armament that, when coupled with her maneuverability, make the vessel and effective anti-corvette platform as well as a deadly anti-pirate/anti-privateer vessel. In addition, her racked missiles launchers provide a ranged engagement capability that improves the vessels intercept capacity.
Favored among special operations teams and the Office of Naval Intelligence, the Katana benefits from hull and engine upgrades that, when used in parallel, provide a "silent running" mode that effectively masks the ship from even the most modern sensor systems. Consequently, the Katana has become the go to ship for investigative missions and covert operations in which subtlety, as well as strong offensive and defensive capabilities, is wanted. These facts combined have given rise to the joke among Katana Captains that, while being one of the most numerous ships in the Alliance Navy, the Katana's are the most illusive.
